Rihanna launched her beauty line in September this year. I’m going to let you know which products from the Fenty Beauty range are worth buying.
I absolutely love Rihanna. She has been a style icon for me for a very long time and I have always enjoyed her music. Her makeup brand has a strong focus on inclusiveness and offered us all a lot of optimism. RiRi stated, “The Fenty Face was created for women of all skin tones, of all personalities.” I love the concept, the packaging, and I couldn’t wait to test the products. It’s incredible that for her first makeup launch her team came out with 40 different shades of foundation. Major.
I stood in line at Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge for nearly 2 hours on the week that it launched. The line was massive and the Fenty Beauty counter is quite small. I was so happy to see so many WOC at the store that wanted to purchase these products. I was extremely eager to see if the foundation was really going to be for everyone. However, the brand is completely cruelty-free and won’t be available in China, where imported cosmetics must be tested on animals.
The packaging is beautiful and very ergonomic. Millennial pink and neutral tones are obviously going to catch attention. The foundation is housed in a frosted glass bottle with a pump, which makes it easy to use and keeps the product hygienic for longer. The Match Stix are magnetic which adds a nice touch to the product. It’s a great way to organise all your beauty products for travelling or just general tidiness.
Packaging that is hot and practical – It’s a no brainer, really.
The full-bodied foundation brush 110
This works perfectly with the foundation to even out the skin tone and provide a good amount of coverage. I love using a beauty blender for foundation and concealer, but I thought I would give this brush a try. The brush is very soft and dense at the same time. I found that I didn’t need to use a beauty blender to further press the product into my skin. It’s a synthetic, cruelty-free brush, which has a paw-shape to give you the right density for blending foundation onto your face and neck area.
Profilt’r soft matte longwear foundation
Looking online, I initially thought I would go for shade 360, which is Neutral Olive, and for tan to deep skin with neutral olive undertones. I found the finish very natural and it looks more like skin with more hours of wear, but also provides a good amount of coverage. It is a matte finish and for my skin it was not chalky or drying. It dries down quite quickly so I would recommend that you work with it accordingly. I like to start with my jaw and neck and work my way up the face. To cover my face and neck area I used 3 pumps of product. The price is £26 which is super reasonable for 32 mL inside the bottle. The foundation lasted more than 10 hours from morning-to-night during a work day, and did a good job at controlling the oiliness in my T-zone area. I’ve been told by some people that this foundation oxidises, but I didn’t notice this. Similar to apples that will turn brown when exposed to the oxygen in the air, foundation can become darker (or more orange) on your skin over the course of the day.
The Match Stix Trio is a great bundle, I got mine in Tan 300, which includes the colours:
Caramel – Cool; for concealing or highlighting shade
Truffle – Neutral; as a contour or bronzing shade
Rum – Gilded Bronze; a shimmer stick for highlighting
The sticks are dense, in a good way as in I’m not afraid of going in with them and risking having them snap off. The formula appears to be a cream stick but dries down as a powder, thus making it very buildable and easy to use with a brush/ beauty blender/ fingers in my opinion.
The Caramel shade matched me well and I am currently using it as an under-eye concealer. I pat that down gently with my fingertips.
The Truffle shade is a cool, very dark brown and is great for contouring and working right into the skin. I find that I don’t need to use a powder contour or bronzer over the top. It lasts all day and creates a gorgeous shadow on the cheeks. I absolutely love the shade and I haven’t stopped using this cream contour since I first tried it.
The Rum shade first swatches as a shimmery bronzer on my skin, rather than a highlight. I like to swipe it on the back of my hand, warm it up on my skin to break down the product, bring out the shimmer, and then use my fingers to apply it to my cheekbones. This shimmer stick is so beautiful as an eyeshadow and I swipe it over my lids almost every day.
Overall, I really love the Fenty Beauty products. I was extremely pleased with her first launch of face / base products.
